According to a 2021 report by Rwanda's Bureau of Statistics, more than 56% of women aged 15 to 49 have experienced physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. Despite these alarming statistics, the country has only a handful of safe spaces for survivors of such violence, and the resources available are often overstretched and underfunded.
Slixa's decision to establish Rwanda’s first fully funded women's shelter comes in response to this urgent need for more comprehensive support services for victims of GBV. The «Empower Her Rwanda» project will not only provide emergency housing but also offer holistic care, including mental health support, legal assistance, and skills training to help women rebuild their lives.

- Education and Vocational Training: Empowering women with literacy programs, computer skills, and vocational training in areas such as tailoring, craft-making, and agriculture.
- Health and Wellness: Providing healthcare services, including sexual and reproductive health education, regular health check-ups, and access to contraception.
Community Engagement and Local Partnerships

Over this period, the organization aims to expand its reach by opening satellite shelters in other parts of Rwanda and neighboring countries, where similar challenges persist.
